8th-Dec-2009 12:08 am - Those little wtf moments.
I had to get Tom to check this to make sure my PC wasn't playing silly buggers

http://ww2.wizards.com/StoreAndEventLocator/ - This is the DnD store/event locator.

I put glasgow in, getting one result. The result has apparently glitched and is showing up in the wrong part of glasgow.

In a specific part of Glasgow, at the end of a specific street.

Those who have known me for a long time will understand why this is a wtf. (Harkin i'm looking at you!)

The world is a bizzare tangle of coincidences.

(And I suspect that we will never unravel them, or if we did it would drive us insane. I love GKar btw)
7th-Dec-2009 05:41 pm - Things I learned on Planet 51
I took the squidlings to see Planet 51 this weekend. It was a nice little outing and dove tailed nicely with having to say up till 6am Sunday morning working on a dropped connection between my main office and our remote site. Turns out, it was a bad fiber transceiver, but that ain't why I called.

Planet 51. Huh. Yeah. It was alright. A bit disappointing but also interesting in little ways. I think the software has become ubiquitous enough that animated movies are finally going to have to compete on plot, writing, and cleavage rather than sub-surface particle tracing and digital eye-lash rendering. This movie was made in Spain, and if the Spaniards can turn out some rather nicely rendered work... well, the French can't be too far behind.

So what did I learn from this movie?

Well, aside from the rather heavy handed blunt smack to the back of the head about acceptance of difference, I learned that...

1.) Alien women are freaking hot. Especially when they wear 50's dress. Man. MAN. You haven't seen an ankle length A skirt shake like that until its been on a creature with a pelvis that's the widest bone in their body.

2.) Aliens speak English. Unless you've got the SAP track on.

3.) Aliens breathe oxygen in concentrations suitable for humans.

4.) Anti-grav technology, no matter how ubiquitous, will never be used to cheaply breach an atmosphere. Mostly it will be there to allow the alien version of the 57 Caddy to wallow just like its wheel-borne counterpart around the most gentle of curves.

5.) Aviator glasses will ALWAYS have nose pads. Even if your species doesn't possess a nose.

6.) You're never too alien to make Beatles references.

7.) Humans keep their antennae in very strange places.

8.) NASA of the future can't make remote sensors or train astronauts for shit, but by damn they can make an EXCELLENT planetary rover. Probably because they let Apple design the exterior.
7th-Dec-2009 05:10 pm - 24 days till 2010
Thanks for all the well wishes, I took the weekend to do nothing. It was amazing. Now back to the grind. As my cons for this year are done, and 2010 is looming ahead of us. Its time for the COSPLAY BOOK. Woah, I'm starting my edit, and I'm quite sure it'll be up there in the 100 or so again. Once I've got the edit done, I'll post the credit pages again, like I did last year.

I also need to work on backlog, including:
-AnimeNext Masq
-More Nyaf photos
-NYAF Masq
-Owl City Concert
-Shunya photos, of myself, Miko, Maggie and Jamie

Don't worry, ausa and the ball are the first on my list, and will def be done before the end of the year.

speaking of the ball...

In case you're not following me on Twitter, my laptop has decided to break.

I was watching an episode of K-On! last night when the screen suddenly went weird. I thought it was just a display driver crash (though in retrospect it wasn't because when that happens the screen usually comes back on "Safe Mode" settings) so I reset the computer. When I turned it back on, it wouldn't boot up properly; no problem, I'd had this problem before and knew to take out the battery and replace. Turned it back on, and it prompts me to do a drive sweep for errors. Sure, okay. Halfway through, the screen goes weird again. Another hard reset, and now Windows won't boot up at all. It just keeps resetting itself every three seconds unless I smash at the Function keys, in which case it stays on but nothing happens. Nothing boots up at all.

Fortunately, my dad works at a computer company and has agreed to take it into their maintenance guys; they're really great, they've helped me out before. Hopefully they'll be able to fix it properly, I'm not quite ready to shell out for a new laptop just yet.

So anyway, I borrowed my mum's netbook to give you all this update. I had been planning on running my first online D&D campaign in over a year tonight, but that's not happening since all the game statistics are stored on my laptop. I'm using the extra time to do a bit more planning, as well as pursue some of the other little projects I have going.

But this chick actually has talent. She could easily wipe the floor with SNL.
6th-Dec-2009 09:16 am - More Chronicles Of Oscar
In a nutshell they aren't sure what caused the anal bleeding - only that there was a lot of it with diarrhea.
However the xrays have prepped me for some seriously trying times ahead: Hip Dysplasia and arthritis despite his young age.
His hip joints did not form correctly. Instead of a ball of bone in a rounded socket - we got 2 nubs that resemble more flying saucers - more pronounced outwards in the middle. Honestly it looks genetic more than anything. They said he may actually need hip replacement in the future.

I still have 5 cats crated in the damn living room. Some of you may recall that I'm allergic to cats. It's killing [info]trickykitty and me. I've been popping Benedryl every day since Thursday.
The other 3 cats are getting awfully angry. Tomorrow 2 get taken to the vet to get fixed. Then we're letting them outside (after setting up a place for them to run to in the garage where there'll be a spare litterbox, some auxiliary food and plenty of towels and blankets to bundle in when the freezing temps get here.

So - again if anyone wants to adopt some litterbox trained cats that actually are not meowing too terribly much - lemme know.
I won't lie - the tuxedo rag-doll is a loud mouth.
Think I blew all my energy before 8:03. That's when I sat down and made a list of all the crap I'd done this morning to see what else needed to be done. Sadly everything that needs to be done requires leaving the house.
It's cold and the dog is hyper. Meaning I can't leave him inside as he gets into things at a rate normally reserved for a toddler, his crate is full of cats and it's too cold to leave him outside without risking his arthritis acting up. Or tearing up more things out there. He's trying to dig to the other yard to visit the pit bull there, Champ.
Champ has killed other dogs which is why he has a hot wire running along his side of the fence to prevent him from getting within 8 inches of his fence - which is sunk into the ground and the poles are secured with concrete. Champ may be acting friendly towards Oscar, but that may change the moment Oscar is in his yard.
They currently run relay races, try to touch noses and just hang out.
Writing this entry is my break.
I'm suppose to cook a turkey today, but I'm feeling more and more against the idea simply because I'd rather clean. That and I don't want to go shopping again. If I could order the groceries, damn right I'd consider.
6th-Dec-2009 02:20 am - The Holidays
As some of you know, the holidays are really hard on me. I don't really have much family so it always brings back bad memories and loneliness. This past year, especially the second half, has been the most trying time of my life. I've had to do a lot of soul searching. I made 2 good friends and then proceeded to lose both. Sometimes I just feel like I'm afraid to be happy and push or scare away those who might make me so. The AX shit is really weighing heavily on me too. I never realized how much the con and the people in it meant to me until I realized how much I aim to lose. I meant so many wonderful people that have changed my life. I hope the rest of this month allows me to have some happiness, I could really use it. As lonely as I feel, I do realize that there are a lot of people who do care. Sometimes my selfishness makes me forget that. So to all my friends, THANK YOU. I'm sorry for any shit you guys had to put up with regarding my attitude and emo-ness. I have to realize how much I do have to live for. I look forward to the rest of the year and the people I get to spend it with.

5th-Dec-2009 07:32 pm - Known Formula
What is with One Piece fillers - and nearly all of the movies - ALWAYS being about a small child who hates pirates?

Makes them easy to point out to people for avoidance purposes I guess..

5th-Dec-2009 06:45 am - London report - Day 1!
I'm lazying around until Brian wakes up - perfect time to start writing up a report on this trip. Overall it's been so cold and we've been so busy that we haven't stopped to take as many photos as last year. But there are some!
Friday (Day 1):
Well, really, our trip started on Thursday afternoon - after packing off and on for TWO days, we arrived at the airport with three giant suitcases, two rolling carry ons, one backpack and my huge purse. Scored Business Elite class seats and didn't have to pay for the extra suitcase, woo! The flight, which we dreaded before, all of a sudden became too short. We stretched out, were fed very well, had some champagne and wine, and watched a couple of movies. I had to force myself to sleep for a couple of hours instead of keep watching movies I'd been missing in Theaters lol.
We landed in London around 6:30am, and the epic journey from airport to hotel via trains began. We met Jess at Victoria Station and had some breakfast (and I downed a huge cup of coffee even though I don't drink coffee) and lugged our suitcases around what seemed like endless stairs up and down inside multiple stations for line changes. In between the rushing, I was high on caffeine and squeeing over how great it was to come back to London. I was also well prepared for the cold, with thick scarves, fur lined gloves, hat, and boots, on top of a down jacket! Ha! Finally at around 11:30am, we made it to the hotel yaaaaaaaaaay. Prompty unpacked Carmilla and inspected it for damages. It wasn't too bad. Eventually I'll have to re-stuff the shoulder and hip pieces.
We took a nap and dressed up for the Dita Von Teese book signing, then went into the glorious city! We met with [info]thedreamerworld and a few UK friends like Jess, Nick and Tom who also wanted to come along and set out to find this Waterstone's book store. Ended up walking 20 min to the wrong one and had to circle around Regent Street (busiest shopping street in London ugh), fighting a sea of people to the big book store, which already had a long que all the way around the corner of the street. We noticed many adorable pin up girls freezing in hose and tiny dresses, and gorgeously done up hair. A couple of Dita look-a-likes, too! After a cold hour wait in the que, we finally got our books signed.
Dita's signing station was beautifully decorated, with a huge wall poster of her in a corset and top hat. But I think she was dressed down for the occasion in a nice but comparatively casual dress - and why not, it was a long signing for her. She signed every book presented in front of her and many of us had multiple ones. I got five signatures from her alone. She looked gorgeous, and exactly like in her photos. Everything from Dita's nails to hair to eyebrows were perfect. Because they rushed everyone through, we didn't get to speak to her much. I just said that I follow her on Twitter and gave her one of my card haha. She was very soft spoken that day, almost inaudible. I assume it's because she was in signing mode and pressured from her handlers to keep the line moving.
I promptly got interviewed for the experience after getting out of line lol, then we were all more than ready to get off our sore feet (heels) and get some food in us.

The city turned out to be so busy and touristy on a Friday night that we ended up in Pizza Hut. By the way, UK Pizza Huts are all sit down restaurants with a buffet station and a large menu. We inhaled some pizza and chatted for a long time, until Brian's and my jetlag started on seriously kick in and we were threatening to dose off at the table lol.

It was time to go back to the hotel and do some sleeping. 30 min train ride later and our first adventurous day in London came to an end!

4th-Dec-2009 01:01 pm - ugh
Can anyone here tell me why people are so indecisive and retarded? Can anyone here help me figure that out? There must be at least a million posts like this a week, with a million other people exclaiming the same goddamn thing. But fuck. It's so irritating. It makes me want to gobble dark chocolate like a jackass, it does.
